One of the essential ingredients to do our work is faith.

It needs faith to step up and do the hard work. It’s faith in one’s ability to create a result. It is knowing that failure belongs to the process. It is the faith that whatever outcome our action has, we will be able to deal with it.

It needs faith to engage in a conversation or whatever type of relationship. It’s the faith in the other as much as the faith in ourselves. It is knowing that both can contribute to being in the relationship and will do so. It is the faith that there are less disagreeable than enjoyable times.

However, when faith is what people rely on, then they’ve lost their agency. Then they are following a guru and expecting him to solve the problems. That’s because they either don’t want to tackle the issues themselves or because they believe that they can’t handle it without him.

Sometimes it works, at the cost of autonomy.
