When accepting a role, it comes with expectations and responsibilities. The work you do is to achieve the outcomes that go with the role. Accepting responsibility for this is what accountability is about
Being accountable is a way of life.
Being accountable is about engagement, putting in the work needed, knowing that there will be good and bad outcomes. Its choosing how to approach your projects. Seeing your leverage, the tools you have, the competence you have. Seeing when the outcome doesn’t meet your expectations. Seeing when it exceeds them. It is about setting the expectations you can achieve, not the ones you dream of.
Being accountable is also treating yourself fairly when you don’t reach the outcome planed just as well as when you reach it. It is keeping reality in mind.
It’s rarely something you can do alone.
