When learning a new skill, people usually are aware of a learning curve.
Something a lot more complicated to know is how to locate oneself on the learning curve. Looking at human nature and the habit to compare oneself, there is also the question of with whom to do so. Another useful question is to ask oneself what one’s ambitions and expectations can be.
Without making oneself aware of these questions, it is easy to fall into the trap of assuming one isn’t good enough.
Out of awareness, the people one is comparing oneself with will easily be those who are admired for their ability to perform that skill and who are shown when they perform well.
