The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

The means to an end

Olaf is a dynamic leader, pushing things forward is important for him. In working with his team, he will thus easily want to move things by inviting quick decisions. However, as his team will often push back, Olaf started to push even more for decisions.

The resulting dynamic of pushing back and pushing for a decision transformed the importance of decisions. From being a means to an end, they’ve become an objective in themselves.

It’s summarized in the saying that “a decision is better than no decision” and led to decisions without a clear indication of what they are for.

It’s eroding the team’s sense of engagement and attention to targets.
