Sticking to the target

When throwing a ball toward a goal it’s rare to think about how one holds one’s hand.

When playing soccer and trying to hit the ball into the goal, there is more attention to how one hits the ball with the foot.

When the task is to hit a golf ball with a golf club things seem to be different. It frequently happens that the player determines a spot where he wants the ball to land, sets himself up to hit the ball in this direction, and then shifts his focus toward hitting the ball itself.

In such a movement the original target moves out of sight, hitting the ball isn’t longer part of a process and becomes an end in itself.
