The person who asks you for a solution isn’t bothered with understanding the problem, they just want a solution.
Provide the solution if your work is to be a solution provider. There are lots of places where it’s the best way to proceed. If you lost your keys and call a locksmith, you are searching for someone who opens the lock for you. You are not searching for someone who educates you on how to handle keys.
But sometimes, people also come up to you asking for a solution in the hope that you can provide them with a universal solution. When they call the locksmith they hope that they will be handed their picklock. They confuse the tool with the expertise of lock picking.
It’s tempting for the locksmith to sell them the picklock. But the work is to figure out if it is possible to teach them how to use it.
