The whole and its parts

Showing up

Be consistent they say. Show up. Persist.

Yes.

And no.

The aspiration you have, and the success you are looking for require that you show up.

But showing up also means appearing with the creative energy to show up being engaged and willing to learn. It means to show up with an intention and to signal it to those present. It means to seek to live up to one’s aspirations.

It also means to show up to oneself once showing up to others is done. That is, to take the time to reflect on the experience and take a deeper look at the impact that has been achieved.

There always is an impact. It might not be the one expected on others, but for sure there has been one on self. It should be taken as is and seen independently from any evaluation that also has its place.

The impact is the driving force to knowing if showing up works. Both satisfaction and frustration are indicators of being on track. A sense of helplessness or not knowing, however, will be an indicator of a need to change intention, engagement, or aspiration.
