Dealing with Bureaucracy

In many non-profit and volunteer organizations people complain about the existing bureaucracy. They see it as preventing them from being free to act.

There is some truth to it. Bureaucracy is preventing them from doing what they want to do without asking for permission. For them, it is a loss of personal power.

However, when others can prevent them from receiving what they want, these people will often be the first who ask for more bureaucracy. This time, in the hope that it will give them the power to receive what they want.

There will always be too little or too much bureaucracy. It’s an invitation to get along with the one that is there. Within the known rules lies freedom.
