The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

Change is more than an idea

As a kid, change is simple. It is understood as something one wants or doesn’t want. It is a binary process, either one wants to nap or one wants to be active. Whatever idea pops up, it exists in the idea itself or its opposite. Which in essence is the same dynamic, only seen from another perspective.

It’s also often why change doesn’t work. Reversing what we are used to doing is building our new activity on a known mechanism. It keeps the old habit as the pattern for the new habit.

Making change happen requires more than knowing what one wants or doesn’t want.

It requires gaining clarity on what that change is for and what it will look like.

And “look like” is not necessarily a thing that can be described. It can also be a feeling, a way of thinking, just as much as it can be a way of acting that results from having made the change come true.

Once it is clear enough and can be described, the plan to implement it will emerge.
