In a situation of uncertainty, optimism or pessimism are the available choices.
As Wikipedia puts it: “optimism is an attitude reflecting a belief or hope that the outcome of some specific endeavor, or outcomes in general, will be positive, favorable, and desirable.”
Optimism is independent from the result. It is what we believe about it coming to be, and may or may not be well-founded.
Listening to someone who was being asked if he was optimistic I heard him answer that looking at the current situation he wasn’t.
It reminded me of how people relate to their environment and how they can make themselves dependent on current events.
There is always the possibility to be optimistic about one’s situation and the ability to deal with upcoming events. Optimism then allows for the idea to evaluate one’s situation independently from any outside event or chaos.
Being able to be optimistic for oneself is closely linked to the ability to see what is within one’s control. It is knowing that by focusing on impacting what is within our control much more can happen.
It is deciding to be humble about one’s options and enjoying when one’s optimism is confirmed.
Optimism lets go of expectations.
