The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

You always do what you want

If you heard this, take a moment to reflect on it.

In general, it’s true. The moment people step into action people decided to go for it and accepted it as their action.

When it’s the feedback you are receiving, then the message you are being told is actually something different.

It’s one of several possibilities.

You’ve forgotten to tell the other person what it is you want to do and just went ahead.

You’ve assumed you knew what that person wants.

You’ve avoided negotiating with that person assuming that they’ll agree or that it is the best for them.

The other person doesn’t know how to say no.

The other person doesn’t tell you what they want.

The other person hopes you’ll involve them.

It’s probably easy to add more items to the list, but the above may already describe the essence: there is a lack of interaction between those involved.
