Working on strategy

Attending an event with many young leaders I was invited to facilitate a strategy workshop. It was a crowd of 50 young leaders all currently serving their organization. The organization had been establishing some positions and a vision of who their members are.

In such a setting, working on the strategy means looking into how it is being implemented. It’s about asking oneself questions about the ways projects are designed and done. It’s about asking oneself how today’s task is contributing to the plans defined through the strategy.

Once the future is planned, the work happens on a day-to-day basis, and in all the small actions they are doing on a day-to-day basis.

Sometimes, working on strategy is simply that. It’s getting more clarity on how the day-to-day work is all that can be done. It’s reminding everyone that showing up counts.

It’s holding the tension between wanting to get there and knowing that it happens daily.
