There is a moment in time when doubt is welcome and necessary.
In essence, it is any time new information appears.
That is the moment when doubt serves to integrate new information and challenge what one believes to know.
It’s a trigger to question what one knows and believes and an opportunity to consider the coherence of what is known or said.
And yet, it is a challenge, as we are wired to confirm existing information and use it to keep our beliefs.
A point of attention: doubting oneself is misplaced, as it focuses on the self. That is when doubt serves us as an opposing force to seeing ourselves as being right.
Doubt emerges from accepting that one doesn’t know if what one believes or does is right or wrong.
