When it comes to repeating an activity, there are at least two perspectives one can have.
The first is that one repeats a task over and over.
The second is that one familiarizes oneself with the chosen activity.
Both approaches are relevant and necessary.
We wouldn’t be able to breathe and walk at the same time without the ability to automate these activities. The ability to automate activities liberates us from the need to be present to it and give it all of our attention.
Familiarizing ourselves with an activity is a testimony of our ability to learn. We acknowledge that the way we’ve done an activity until now may not have made everything visible to us and choose to learn more about it.
A difference between both is the use of curiosity. Our ability to familiarize ourselves with something needs curiosity, whereas automation almost prevents curiosity.
