I regularly am confronted with a preference to get it done over understanding how it is done.
The idea behind this might be as simple as the difference between a mindset seeing an ability to develop one’s talents or a mindset seeing ones talents as innate gifts. Carol Dweck coined the term fixed mindset for the later and growth mindset for the first.
By putting the idea to get things done first, there is an idea that we simply can do it. It’s as if it is innate that we can get it done.
Understanding the principles is using another approach. There the idea is that by understanding the underlying dynamics or ideas we’ll be able to influence the situation.
While both approaches lead to success. The difference will appear once difficulties come up.
