The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

Choosing appreciation

It was a bit early for dinner, but we decided to settle in the bar area of the restaurant. Asking for a drink and a snack we also checked if dinner would be possible.

The waitress kindly told us that she’d check to see if our plan was feasible.

A bit later, a waiter passed by and took our reservation for the restaurant. In doing so, he realized that we’d appreciate eating as soon as possible. After checking he came back sharing that we could order whenever we wanted.

As the evening moved on, we counted that 5 people checked on us, served us, and wanted to make sure that we had everything. It was a constant dialogue with them, where quite a bit of our exchanges showed details in the organization that weren’t smooth.

However, as we were included in the exchange, we also noticed how their effort was there to assist us independently of whatever would become visible to us. Everyone dealt gracefully with the details they didn’t know how to handle or what could have been seen as a mistake.

Evaluating the evening, we decided that it was our choice to focus on their kindness and efforts or to focus on what we perceived as a lack of organization.

It allowed us to see how their efforts made it work for all of us and made it possible for us to enjoy our evening. It created a warmth that can often be found missing in efficient processes.
