Human beings constantly react to their environment. It is a context in which they find themselves and seek to be at their best.
They want to contribute to a mission. They want to be liked. They want to make others feel welcome.
And they also want to survive.
Both polarities of the experience in an environment lead to a variety of reactions that allow us to learn how to operate in this environment.
The first environment we adapt to, and become perfect in, is the one we are born into. It becomes the template we’ll use to compare any other environment with.
Whenever we find ourselves in a changed environment there will be two ways to approach it.
We can observe our behavior and its impact and blame someone or something when it doesn’t work out as planned.
We can take it as a blind spot. It is an invitation to find ourselves appreciating how extraordinarily complex human beings are in their ability to handle unknown factors in an environment. And how incredible it is that they can continuously learn to adjust to yet another context.
The choice we’ll make will depend on our ability to accept exploring discomfort or our desire to reject it onto something.
