The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

Right or wrong?

A focus on right or wrong is a useful one, whenever it concerns values. In such a context right and wrong provide boundaries or guardrails for one’s choices.

Evaluating something as right or wrong may be adequate when talking about a test where there is a definition of what can be considered right and what wrong.

When it comes to interacting with others, however, an evaluation in right or wrong does not reflect what has happened. Both, most certainly, will experience it as right and wrong. As time passes by, that evaluation will change.

What cannot be achieved is to decide on an action and know if it is right or not. That would require one to guarantee the outcome, not only in the moment but also in the far future.

The consequence is, that deciding on one’s action should not be done using a scale of right and wrong in terms of achieving a result that is right and not wrong.

It is while acting, that we’ll develop a sense of it being ok, and adjust to the reactions that appear.
