The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

Adapting oneself

Essentially, there are two ways to adapt oneself.

One is to adapt to the situation and others as it is experienced and as seems right to oneself.

Another is to adapt to the situation and others as it seems required and do so in a search for conformity or adversity.

The first is based on our ability to experience the present moment and apply critical thinking. The second is based on our desire to belong and fear of rejection. Safety is sought through adapting to the rules as they are perceived.

The first is a tribute to our uniqueness and an appreciation of the community. The second is submissive to the rules and felt power of the community. This is also true for going against the rules, as there is no opposite without the original.
