The whole and its parts

The whole & its parts

It’s an obligation

A regular occurrence is that executing a task is perceived as an obligation.

It’s often a signal that people don’t like the task or don’t want to do it.

Out of dislike for obligations, people then find themselves searching for activities they want. It’s based on the assumption that if they don’t like what they do they will not live their passion and have to find something they want.

It’s not as simple as that. But it’s not that complicated either.

Much of it is having made a choice and accepting that it is one’s own choice and has consequences.

It transforms the experienced obligation into a consequence of one’s choices. It may not make it pleasurable, something one likes, or what one dreamt of. But that’s not the point. Whatever it is one does, it brings one closer to what one is doing the work for.

And just as important. When making a decision, it rarely is clear if one will want what one has chosen to do.

Eventually, what may appear is a sense of coherence with who one is. For some it somehow is clear right away. For many, it may never feel like that but become coherent when looking back. And for others it might never seem like that.

It might be better not to wait for what one wants and start exploring what it is one is creating.
