What games teach us

When sports become games, they can become a learning experience.

If one makes oneself aware of the possible lessons.

One of the most basic learnings is how to stand in the face of errors. This is true for a lot of team sports like football, hockey or basketball. It is also true for individual sports like tennis, or golf.

Whenever one interacts with the ball or seeks to reach it on time, there is a possibility to miss it or make some other error.

They are all a game of errors.

One may now consider it our objective to prevent these errors.

But it is not possible to prevent them from occurring.

Thus, the most relevant learning addresses our relationship to errors. It’s about finding a way to let go of one’s attachment to the result and become more relaxed in the face of errors.

Learning unfolds once it becomes possible to develop a professional attitude. It’s an attitude that is based on one’s ability to never lose sight of the objective. And yet, one that is constantly present to the situation and one’s objective to contribute to the objective.
